Helen Gilbert
Project Leader
Helen is Professor of Environmental Arts at Royal Holloway and an expert in postcolonial performance studies. Her research explores Indigenous calls for ecological justice through multispecies storytelling and community activism.
Patrick Lonergan

Patrick is a writer and academic who lives and works in Galway, in the West of Ireland. His current research explores the intersection between theatre and ecological crisis.
Neide P. Areia
Principal Investigator
Neide is a Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra. Her work explores participatory risk governance, coastal management and community engagement in environmental change.
Emilia M. Durán Almarza
Principal Investigator
Emilia is Professor of English Studies at the University of Oviedo specialising in feminist and de-colonialising studies. Her current work explores Caribbean approaches to the ways colonial histories and environmental crises collide.
Heli Aaltonen
Principal Investigator
Heli is Associate Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. A specialist in applied theatre, her multidisciplinary research combines bird studies with performative arts across community contexts.
David Bullen
Researcher
David is Associate Professor of Drama & Theatre at Royal Holloway as well as a writer, director and dramaturg. He specialises in ecocritical storytelling practices that adapt traditional narratives and forms – myth, epic, tragedy – for contemporary political purposes.

Máiréad is an artist and researcher based at University of Galway. She works on developing performance-based strategies, rooted in place, that nurture ecological embodiment and perception.
Cláudia Pato de Carvalho
Senior Researcher
Cláudia is a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies in cultural mapping, urban intervention, citizen science and social innovation. Her current work explores intersections between academic and non-academic contexts for knowledge co-production.
Nancy Duxbury
Senior Researcher
Nancy is a Principal Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra, Portugal. She is passionate about identifying and activating place-based cultural resources (tangible and intangible) for inclusive local sustainability.
Isabel Carrera-Suárez
Senior Researcher
Isabel is Professor Emerita at the University of Oviedo, specialising in the intersections between postcolonialism and gender. Current projects focus on oceanic connections, the materiality and imaginaries of littorals and bodies of water.
Paola Prieto López
Researcher
Paola is a lecturer at the University of Oviedo specializing in contemporary Black British theatre and ethics. Her current research focuses on Scottish performance through the lens of Black feminist hydrocriticism.
Ángela Harris Sánchez
Postdoctoral Researcher
Ángela is based at Oviedo University and holds Erasmus Mundus, MPhils and PhDs in art therapy, gender, cultural studies and comparative literatures. She is committed to climate and antiracist justice inside and outside academia.
